brand new counter for Rat Records in Camberwell, all ready for Record Store Day 21st April 2012
Now there’s the look of a happy man, and we’re glad to say we have something to do with that!
Here we see the action that we see a lot of – the involuntary desire to stroke the smooth surface of a decoupaged resin surface. Our compadre and fellow respector of the vinyl medium, DJ Eltham John suggested we go and make friends with Rat Records, as they were regularly junking duff vinyl, something that is like black, bendy treasure to the likes of us – so given the choice between hanging out with me at a craft fair surrounded by cupcakes and ironic bunting, or hang around a record shop in a fug of music and maleness all afternoon, my dear old dear opted for the latter and came back with a fast-turnaround commission, the outcome of which you see here.
Lorsten’s design of scans of classic and rare reggae and ska 7 inch lables, has been getting a big thumbs up from the purists out there. Its been used to great effect on a few choice coffee tables, now supporting takeaways and mugs of tea of bachelors up and down the country, as well as one design studio, who know a thing or two about pretty.
